THE HISTORY of 39 brooker place

This classic mews building was constructed in the 1890s as a stable with loft above serving the house on Sackville Road behind. The varied history of the building could easily be evidenced throughout the conversion into yoga studio by the discovery of different layers of material in the gaps between the ground floor’s charming floor blocks. The top layer consisted of cement dust, screws and other small items demonstrating that it was used as a builder’s yard until recently. Next there were numerous paper clips which were surely dropped by the accountants who occupied the building for around 40 years. Set oil followed which no doubt came from the mechanics who rented the building for a number of years. At the bottom were flecks of straws and hay - of course from the horses that once called the building home.
